Caleb Okereke

Caleb Okereke is the Founder and Executive Editor of Minority Africa, and a Nigerian journalist who has reported across Africa for CNN, Aljazeera, BBC, Foreign Policy, VICE News, The Guardian, Deutsche Welle and NPR. Currently, he’s a PhD student in Interdisciplinary Design and Media at Northeastern University and a Doctoral Fellow at the Institute for Information, the Internet and Democracy.

Caleb’s research examines how race operates as a governing technology within AI and digital media systems, tracing the afterlives of colonial regimes of labor, surveillance, and spectacle in contemporary platform infrastructures. His work shows how these infrastructures depend on marginalized and racialized labor to function, while shaping visibility and representation in ways that obscure that dependence.

His work has been supported by grants from Google, Luminate Group, and the National Endowment for Democracy. He has given talks at Oxford University and Stanford University, and has been quoted and interviewed as a commentator by outlets including the Financial Times, Le Monde, BBC, El País, Semafor, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, among others.
